PAWS London Capital got their 2007/8 BBL Trophy campaign off to a winning start thanks to a 95-82 victory over EBL side Barker (Tarrings) Worthing Thunder at the Worthing Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

The sides traded baskets in the opening stages, and when James Mooney hit his second three of the night the hosts led 19-17; however, back to back baskets by the game's leading scorer Sam Bradley gave Capital a 21-19 advantage, a lead that they never lost.

A 31-26 lead at the first break was extended by a point at half-time, and Capital led 73-66 going into the final break. The London lead was still only four points heading into final five minutes, before the visitors took control to wrap up the victory.
Scott led the Thunder scoring with 24 points, while Sam Bradley led all scorers in the game, netting 26 points for the Capital. Santa Ataha added 14 and Wes Miller 10.

PLC win to avenge two previous to the Jets

Venue: Northgate Arena
Final Result: BiG Storgae Cheshire Jets 69 - 82 PAWS London Capital
Quarter Scores: 16-27, 43-46, 53-60
Top Scorers: PLC: Williams 16, Bradley 15, Miller 14

Fred Williams led the way as PAWS London Capital avenged two previous defeats to the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets this season with a 82-69 road win at the Northgate Arena.

The victors spread their scoring on the night as Fred Williams notched 16 points, 10 in the first quarter, with Sam Bradley scoring 15 and Wes Miller adding 14. Jayson Obazuaye scored 23 points in vain for the Jets to lead all scorers.
The hosts quickly shot out to a 4-0 lead before the Capital responded with 12 unanswered points. London moved out to a strong 16-27 lead by the end of the first period, with Wes Miller connecting on two three-pointers and Williams scoring 10 early points.

The Jets came storming back in the second quarter as a 10-4 start cut the deficit to 26-31, and a further 10-4 run gave them the lead at 38-37, with Shawn Myers notching 12 points during that period. However, the visitors closed out the half with 4 points from Tayo Ogedengbe and a triple from Miller to regain the lead at 43-46.

After a scrappy third quarter the Capital had pulled away to a 53-60 lead. Seven of their fourteen points came from the free-throw line, whilst the Jets could muster just 10 points in the quarter.

The Jets scored the first basket of the fourth period, but could get no closer as a further three-pointer from Miller and 7 points from Ogedengbe kept them at arm's length. A 13-6 run put the lead at what proved to be an insurmountable 76-61. Jayson Obazuaye tried to inspire his team with 10 fourth quarter points but it wasn't enough as London moved level with the Jets in the BBL Championship table.

Sam Bradley added 15 for Capital, with Wes Miller chipping in with 14.

The weekend’s pair of wins left coach Steve Bucknall a pleased man: “It was a lot better than last week, and we’re starting to play well. We had some problems with the chemistry, but after a hard week in practice, that seems to be sorted out. I needed the players to be hungry, but it was more about fitting the new guys into the side. It always takes time when you have new players, and it’s taken us a bit of time to adjust.”
