London Capital claims valuable victory over reigning champions
PAWS London Capital picked up a huge victory over title contenders the Guildford Heat by a score of 99-92 at the Capital City Academy on Saturday night. Both sides traded baskets in the early going, and it was the Capital who took the initiative with a 15-6 tear midway through the second period to lead 29-26. The home side held onto their slender advantage at 38-36 going in at the half. The second half saw the visitors get themselves in front, and a three-pointer from Daniel Gilbert gave them their biggest lead of the game at 46-55. The Capital clawed their way back into it, and only trailed by two points at 68-70 going into the final stanza. The final quarter started with the Capital netting six of the first eight points to take the lead at 74-72. From then on, both sides traded baskets, and the lead changed hands on numerous occasions, before the Capital enjoyed a 10-2 run to take the score out to 86-82 with less than two minutes remaining. The Heat tried desperately to get back in the game, and an EJ Harrison basket inside the final minute of the game got them to within two at 92-90, but that was as close as they got as the Capital sealed the victory from the foul line. Sam Bradley led the Capital scoring with 18 points, while Harrison and Tony Dorsey led all scorers with 24 points a-piece for the Heat.
