London Capital gain maiden win with an away victory over championship leaders.
Ibrahim Gariba led the way with a 23 point haul as PAWS ended Sharks unbeaten start to the season with a shock victory at the EIS. Steve Bucknall’s side fought back from a 16-point fourth quarter deficit to get back into the game, and overtime then belonged to London as the Sharks struggled through the extra five minutes of action allowing the visitors to steal the points with a Wes Miller three-pointer 12 seconds from the end being the decisive blow.
After a tight opening quarter, which the Sharks shaded 20-18, the home team began to exert their authority during the second period. Defensively Sheffield have been outstanding all season and it showed again as they limited Capital to just 14 points while scoring 24 of their own to lead 44-32 heading into half time. After the break Sheffield once more stifled the London offence to hold a 63-47 advantage with ten minutes remaining. London stormed back during the final stanza though to tie the match at 74-74 and shock the home fans in overtime. Sharks Steve Parillon led all scorers with 40 points, with Santa Ataha adding 18 and Wes Miller 17 for the victorious Capital side. Article by Dave Ryan. |
